Developed as a wilt-resistant Goldings replacement by crossing Bramling with Manitoba. Released in 1927. It has mild blackcurrant, lemony characteristics. Used in bitters, extra special bitters and pale ales.

Considered to be Britain's finest hop, with a fine aroma and flavor. Because of its high price and low bitterness, commercial brewers rarely use it alone. Dates from 1790 and used in most styles of English beer.

Very bitter, but with good aroma for use in lagers.

Used in wheat beer and ales, particularly darker ales and stout. It has a strong but pleasant aroma. It is similar to Northern Brewer and has Brewer's Gold ancestry with typical English characteristics.

Gives a fine, spicy aroma. Similar to Saaz and Spalt and spicier that Hallertauer. European-grown varieties have half the yield, but a similar bitterness, of US-grown plants.

Shinsu Wase has a spicy, refined character, and Saaz and American ancestry.

Spalter Select has a Hallertau-like aroma and used widely in pilsner. It is a replacement for traditional Spalt (Spalter).

America's answer to Fuggles, which it can be used in place of. A little more spicy than Fuggles. Mild and pleasant and a little earthy. Nice bittering with a light, fruity flavor and aroma. Very versatile. Released in 1976. Grown seedless.

Sorachi Ace is a hop that is increasing in popularity. Its distinctive flavour has been described as lemon/bubblegum and is said by some to impart a dill pickle flavour!
